"Self-love is not only necessary and good, it is a prerequisite for loving others." -- Rollo May
"The way to love anything is to realize that it might be lost." -- G. K. Chesterton

REMINDER: Valentine's Day is coming up. Do you have your loving thoughts and greetings ready to mail? Have you chosen the gift for your Special Someone? Put it on your Action List today!
Here are a couple fun tips:
· When you're heading to the grocery store, change into clothes that are a little bit tight. You won't be as likely to buy that bag of cookies or chips then!
· Carry a list of clothing sizes for each member of your family in your purse or wallet. That way, when you see a great bargain, you'll know whether it's a great bargain for you or someone else. And you'll avoid an experience which Henny Youngman describes: "It's easy to tell when you've got a bargain; it doesn't fit."

~~ 3) Let's Ponder ~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm lucky to have my mother visiting me this Valentine's Day, and it's caused me to feel extra grateful for all the precious people in my life. She came with pictures from a niece's recent wedding, and new pictures of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren, my nieces and nephews and so on. And she brought letters from her friends and relatives to share. Her suitcase was a veritable goldmine of love! Every item she pulled out had significance and a story. This blouse was a gift from one daughter, another outfit had been worn to a birthday celebration. A special pin had been a gift from her best friend. Even the suitcase was a treasure, loaned to her by one of her more travel-savvy daughters.
And you know, none of the "things" she brought were particularly valuable - from a monetary standpoint, but they were beyond priceless because of the people, memories, and stories attached. As happens at least once during every visit, I asked Mom to bring out of her billfold the baby pictures she still carries of each of her children - 6 of us, all adults with families of our own now. We lamented once more that we never got a picture of my youngest sister who died as a baby, and we marveled at the likenesses and how absolutely beautiful the babies are. We've probably noted the same things, even said the same words, about those pictures dozens of times, yet we never tire of looking at them together.
Valentine's Day isn't just about romantic love. For me, it represents the Love for family, dear friends, and special people in our lives. The candy and flowers and cupids are sweet, but the memories and the connections . . . . Ahhh, THAT is what I celebrate for Valentine's Day.
~~ 4) Soaring Free ~~
Celebrate Love in your life this week. You're probably planning to do something for someone you love, and my request is that you also do something loving for yourself.
~~ 5) Play Time ~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You know those squeezable balls they have for exercising our hands? Well, I have a squeezable heart in my toy box that I pull out every now and then. The shape feels great in my hands. It's bright, happy red, and it's simple fun to squeeze it and toss it from hand to hand. I enjoy playing with my squeezable heart more than those bland balls, so I guess the message is you may use it more if it's fun and colorful.

~~ 6) Joy Supplies ~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just love the specialty papers you can find at many office supply and hobby shops today. They add color and themes to anything you're writing. For example, I want to send a greeting and invitation to people I met at a recent conference. With these colorful papers, I can choose some design or look that may relate to my message, an upcoming holiday or season or event, or even some image or concept I want the recipients to associate with me. I can print my message on this paper through my laser printer and have a gorgeous color piece very quickly yet inexpensively. Today, it's hearts and cupids on red and white paper; next month it's green clovers and gold with leprechauns. And I've found some lovely blue sky with clouds paper for my notes sent from Wind Beneath Your Wings. It's perfect!
Check out these papers and have fun with them. You may just surprise yourself with your creative flair!
For an online link to one of the paper catalogs with a nice selection of these papers, check out http://www.paperdirect.com. Enjoy.
