Develop interest in life as you see it; in people, things, literature, music. The world is simply throbbing with rich treasure, beautiful souls, and fascinating people. - Henry Miller
You can't learn anything from experiences you're not having. - Louis L'Amour

~~ 2) Taking Action ~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's a fun saying that you can't get wet writing the word WATER, and it's true. We can often get trapped in the thinking and planning and worrying, and we never quite get to the doing.
What is it this week that you need to be doing to make this a week to remember?
~~ 3) Let's Ponder ~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My partner and I attended a performance art event on campus earlier this month. Have you ever seen performance art?!? You never know what you're walking into, so the very act of choosing to attend can be a stretch exercise. I must say that I've always been delighted, challenged, and grateful for the mental workout coming away from a performance art piece. This was no exception.
The artist, in this case, asked us to accept that we have total control over our bodies. She mentioned the studies of people who have lost a limb and the fact that they take to a prosthesis most effectively when they still experience what is called phantom limb - the sensation that the lost limb still exists and itches or twitches. These people actually have more integration with their prosthesis when they can extend the phantom limb feel down over the mechanical device.
Having so prepared us, she asked us to take a next step and accept that we can choose any portion of our bodies with which to experience sexual satisfaction. Remember! This is performance art where we can count on being stretched. Suffice it to say, the audience was asked to participate in an experiment to illustrate this idea, and we were given noisemakers with which to stimulate an ecstatic release.
This left us laughingly shaking out heads but thinking! And I must say I, too, experienced a happy release by blowing wildly on that little noisemaker. The grit of the week was gone! Just like that. I felt like a little girl playing again. I was grinning and happy for the rest of the evening. Total control of our bodies? More than we realize, that's for sure.

It's spring! Get outside this week and check out the buds on the trees and the flowers pushing up. Do something playful that you used to do when you were 8 or 10. Climb a tree, play hide and seek in the back yard as it gets dark, make a mud dessert. Think back to that imaginary friend you used to play with, and have a new adventure. Let that child out to play!

~~ 5) Books for You ~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back to that performance art conversation for a minute, there's actually a science fiction novel about the phantom limb concept. It's titled Flesh and Silver. I don't have the author right now (my book is loaned out). The concept is that special doctors of the future, in order to treat gravely injured patients, had their physical hands and arms surgically removed so that they could use their phantom hands to get inside the injured patient's body and heal from the inside. That's the premise of the novel, and it follows one doctor living with the choice he made. Fascinating reading!
There are a slew of new good books out right now, and I'll be sharing more of them in upcoming newsletters. Here's a book that's been around a while. It fits with our theme today: Bruce Doyle's Before You Think Another Thought: An Illustrated Guide to Understanding How Your Thoughts and Beliefs Create Your Life. It's short, crisp, and very useful.
